Camarillo, California
Camarillo is located in Ventura County, California about halfway between Thousand Oaks and Oxnard. The city has a population of about 57,000 and is known for being permanently zoned for agricultural use, which means living around some of the most beautiful fields in Southern California. Living in your Camarillo apartment will require the use of a car for commuting and getting around the area. There is some bus service, but this is an area where you'll be car dependent.
Small Town Feel
The city is known for its quality of life in everything from fantastic weather to its small town vibe. Old Town is quaint with small shops and restaurants, and you've got the opposite with the outlet malls, which are some of the largest in Southern California. There's Camarillo Ranch which is good for a visit as well as an ornithological facility with over 22,000 specimens. The city has concerts in the park during the summer months, and if you need a big day out, just head to Los Angeles. It isn't that far.
Get Your Water Jar
After you get settled into your Camarillo apartment, you'll want to check out some of the city's restaurants. You've got good choices, but start with Verona Trattoria, everyone's favorite old world type Italian place. Wood Ranch Barbeque is great, and they serve water in jars and have wonderful outdoor seating. You can't miss with that one. California Grill is popular as is Enoteca Toscano, which is a wine bar and bistro with amazing food. If you want diners, Waypoint is great and near the airport so you get the added bonus of a little entertainment in the air. Dorothy's Chuckwagon and the Fiesta are also good picks.
Clubbing It
JJ Brewsky's is a good place to find live music at night, and the drinks aren't bad either.Chuy's is a restaurant but also has an active and fun bar, and the same with The Clubhouse. You'll find some live music at Outlaw's, which is basically just a good dive bar. There's one night club in town which no one recommends. For bigger nights out, head to Ventura or Thousand Oaks for more action. Your Camarillo apartment will feel like home in no time at all, and you'll quickly find neighborhood bars that you like.
