About Billings, MT
The city of Billings is located in southwest Montana and is the state’s largest city and urban area. The city’s population is over 100,000 as of 2010, and its metro area carried over 162,000. Its trade area, which services local industry, is even larger, at half a million. Billings is also the county seat for Yellowstone County, which has experienced large growth in recent years. The city’s industries have done very well even through the recession, with the discovery of oil and natural gas in the region.
Getting Around in Billings, MT

Billings has several options for transportation, especially in the heart of the city. Unique to most North American cities, the Billings Logan International Airport is actually situated very close to the city’s downtown area.  The city’s public transit options come in the form of rail and bus. Billings has a large railroad system that still serves the cities freight and passenger needs. The Billings METropolitan Transit is a bus service that makes its service accessible to the elderly and disabled through wheelchair lifts.

Montana State University Billings

<p>Montana State University Billings is the city's principal institution of higher learning. It has been in operation since the late 1920s, and went through multiple renovation and rebranding efforts until it found its current name in the early 1990s. The university offers a diverse collegiate offering with five different colleges that provide Associate's, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees. As of 2012, there were over 5,000 students attending Montana State University Billings. The school has a popular athletics program, which participates in NCAA Division-II sports.</p>

Yellowstone Art Museum

<p>The Yellowstone Art Museum is known to the locals and students as simply the YAM. It was established in the early 1960s, and at one point was actually based out of a former prison building. The YAM's art collection has steadily grown, and today it has over 7,000 different pieces. It focuses mainly on contemporary art and historic pieces in the region. The museum attracts the community through a number of events and features, such as its Young Artists' collection which features of the work of young students and artists from the area.&Ecirc;</p>
