Yankee Doodle Weekend

One of the lesser known final verses of the popular song "Yankee Doodle" seem to maker reference to Thomas Ditson, an American patriot from Billerica. For this reason, Billerica celebrates a Yankee Doodle Weekend each September. The weekend includes a variety of fairs, musical concerts, and other patriotic events throughout the city. So, when you are in the mood for a little shopping, stop by Town Hall to browse the Crafters' Fair. Families with small children should definitely check out the activity tents set up at the Billerica Common. Here kids enjoy a variety of activities from balloon tosses to miniature golf.

Take to the Water at

Just south of downtown Billerica flows the beautiful Nuttings Lake. This freshwater lake is the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day. Micozzi Beach is located on Nuttings Lake and open seven days a week during the summer. With lifeguards always on duty, this makes it the perfect place to enjoy a splash in the water or simply sunbathing on the sand. For the outdoor enthusiasts, make sure to check out the beach's facilities where you will find fishing rods, canoes, and beach volleyball courts available to rent, as well as picnic tables, a bathhouse, and a basketball hoop.

Get in the Spirit at

Enjoy the breathtaking view of Christmas trees, shiny ornaments, and handmade baskets put on display at the Billerica Holiday Festival. This annual even is anticipated amongst Billerica residents year-round and ignites the holiday spirit in people of all ages. So make sure to kick-off your holiday season at the Billerica Town Common Tree Lighting Ceremony, which takes place in the first week of December. Then, swing by the Billerica Public Library to view the variety of trees display and cast your vote for the one you like the most. Afterwards, visit the man in the red and white suit for some pics.
