The Life of a Bettendorfer

With its great public school system, friendly community, and fun family events, Bettendorf is a great place to raise a family. Pack up the kids and head to the Family Museum for some learning, exploring, and hands-on fun fun fun. Visitors can touch a tornado (how awesome is that?), check themselves out in the image-twisting Wacky Mirrors (cool), or make some music using a bicycle wheel (J.S. Bach in the making). Teeny ones, up to 5 years, can hang in “The Garden” and play with interactive baby-friendly stuff like foam and a climbing maze. Plenty of things to do for everyone here, you will surely want to visit again and again.

The Bettendorf Library is right next to the Family Museum and they offer some great programs and events for the whole family. There is also a cafe in the library which is a nice place to get a cup of coffee, a delicious treat, or to scope out and distract writers at work. Just look for laptops and serious expressions.

There are loads of parks including the West Lake Park, a 620-acre park with four lakes for fishing, contemplating, swimming, and wading. The park also has a boat dock and you can even rent paddle boats for plenty of paddling fun. Get those legs geared up! There are also plenty of picnic areas for dining outdoors, playgrounds, and two campgrounds. If you prefer to enjoy the outdoors while swinging a club at tiny balls, do not despair. You’ll find plenty of playgrounds to play on here. Many golf courses speckle the landscape. Palmer Hills is a favorite as well as the course at the beautiful Davenport Country Club.
