Bethesda, Maryland

Bethesda is located northwest of Washington, D.C. and has a population of 56,000 people. It is considered one of the most affluent and educated communities in the country, and constantly rates very high on livability scales. The town is quite spread out so when searching for your Bethesda apartment, consider the parking as well as proximity to mass transit. Most people commute into Washington and can bike or drive to the local stations.

Key History

This is a town steeped in history. The Bethesda Church for which the town was named is a key landmark as is the famous National Naval Medical Center, and the downtown certainly has plenty of commercial buildings. But Bethesda is mostly for living, and you'll find the upscale boutiques, sidewalk dining and proximity to all the world class institutions in Washington the perfect balance. There are two very active farmer's markets for shopping, and for the outdoor enthusiast there are a number of good golf courses as well as parks and trails for running and biking. The Capital Crescent Trail follows the old B & O railroad tracks, and offers ample room.

Chicken On The Run

Bethesda has a huge selection of upscale restaurants, and is well-known for its vibrant dining scene. Many are located on Bethesda Row and the newer Bethesda Lane. There are so many to choose from that you'll never be without a new one to try out, but start with Chicken on the Run. It's a hole in the wall place for fast food that makes posh restaurants envious. While there are plenty of chains like Ruth Chris, Woodfire Grill, you also have options like Red Tomato Cafe which is great for a glass of wine and good food. Bethesda's Restaurant Week is a very good time to sample some of the expensive places, but once in your Bethesda apartment, you'll want to find your own favorites, and it won't be difficult!

British Style Pubs

There are plenty of sports bars and Irish or British style pubs. Until you're settled into your Bethesda apartment and find your own watering hole, check out places like Ri Ra, Caddie's and Union Jack's. The food and drink is all good as are the patrons. Flanagan's Harp and Fiddle usually has live music on the weekends, and both the Juste Lounge and The Barking Dog have great dance music. For Basque and Latino music, check the schedule at Guardado's. That's alot of fun!
