Load up for a day of fun in the sun at Alabama’s premier water park. Splash Adventure, which was originally as Visionland, and then Alabama Adventure, is a massive complex with jaw-dropping water slides, massive wave pools, a shallow water play area for the kiddos, and even a zip line that runs you over the entire park. Drop in from nine feet high on the Acapulco Drop, get swept down the tube in Splashdown, or just relax and cruise the lazy river around the park while you bask in the sunlight. It is a great way to kill a day.

One of the prime attractions of living in the state of Alabama is the accessibility to nature, no matter what city you call home. Bessemer is no different, and located there is one of the best places in the state to wander around, hike a number of different trails, and take in the local flora and fauna. Watercress Darter National Wildlife Refuge is a 25-acre preserve within the city limits that caters to the habitat of the endangered watercress. There is also a manmade pond called Thomas Spring that was created specifically for the habitat.
A Day at Alabama's Ol
Oddly enough, one of Bessemer’s claims to fame happens to be a 105-year-old diner in the middle of the city. You might think, what is so special about a diner? Well, how about one that was recognized by CNN as one of America’s Best Historic Restaurants and designated by the prestigious James Beard Foundation as an American Classic Restaurant. They have been serving up inexpensive delicious food every day since their opening back in 1907, and the tradition of family-owned and operated dining still stands today with Jim and Nick Koikos running the show on a regular basis.
