Illinois Beach State

The best place to enjoy the sandy shorelines around Beach Park is at the Illinois Beach State Park. The park is over 4,000 acres and divided into two sections, the southern of which is in Beach Park. The park offers the full range of outdoor recreational activities. There are designated swimming areas that are also popular places for sunbathing. You will find many places to fish, as well as over five miles of hiking trails, including a 2.2-mile loop with a graveled surface perfect for taking the mountain bike out on a ride.

The Ravinia Festival

The Ravinia Festival has been an institution in the region since 1904, making it one of the nation's longest ongoing music festivals. The success is due in part to the wide variety of music featured. From chamber music to alternative rock, there is something for even the most particular of music fans. The festival consists of over 150 events taking place between June and September. The main stage area offers seating for thousands and there is extra space on the lawn, as some attendees like to bring a blanket and a picnic. Everyone in the area should attend at least one concert at this exciting event.

The Joys of Lakeside

Nothing completes the beachside experience quite like enjoying a delicious and leisurely meal right on the water. There are a number of restaurants and bars in Beach Park and the surrounding communities that offer seating right on the gently lapping shores of Lake Michigan. The Illinois Beach Resort is probably the most popular place in the area to grab a bite and enjoy the views, and it is definitely worth a visit. For something a little further off the beaten track, check out Lindy's Landing, which offers fine dining right on the beach, as well as a beach bar for a more laid back atmosphere.
