Find Yourself in Avon
Depending on your gender, you may one day fancy yourself an Avon lady, no? Not that kind of Avon lady, mind you, but the kind that is both a lady and a resident of Avon, Indiana, a town of a scant 12,000 souls to the west of Indianapolis. This city is known for its laid back, small town vibe, family friendly atmosphere, and apparently one heck of a marching band. In 2008 the Avon High School marching band was given the honor of being named the country's best high school marching band, period. No qualifiers, no nonsense. Avon's marching band isn't the town's only claim to fame, however. It's also home to Jim Sorgi, quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, and probably a real swell guy. Add your own name (Avon Lady, is it?) to this list by landing a top notch apartment in Avon.

Avon Apartments and Their Trendy Trends
Whether you're a shut-in that demands peace and quiet from your neighbors because you work from home (or maybe don't work at all - hey, it's none of our business), or a raucous social butterfly that can't wait to schmooze with the landlord, the apartment that suits you best can most assuredly be found in Avon.
The Basic Avon
The first thing you need to know about Avon is that it has a history of multiple personalities. It's been known as Hampton, White Lick (don't ask), Smootsdale, and even New Philadelphia. Maybe someone can fill you in about that last one some time, given it's nowhere near the old Philadelphia. Perhaps a friendly local, of which there are over 12,000 to choose from. Avon is in Washington Township in Hendricks County, Indiana. For those west coasters that haven't heard of a Township - apart from maybe a movie they once saw starring either a cowboy or a hobbit - it's defined as "a division of a county with some corporate powers." Hm, not very exciting stuff come to think of it, but then again you're not here for a lesson in political geography, now are you?
Avon is known for its down-to-earth hospitality, excellent school system, business friendly economic environment, and perhaps most interesting of all, its musical legacy. It isn't that Avon has turned out any huge pop stars, no, but rather a slow and steady stream of team talent in the form of symphonies and high school marching bands. A lot of bands merely blow smoke, but the kids at Avon High blow horns - and apparently a whole lot of judges right out of the water! If anyone actually deserves to toot their own horn, it's them.
Monies in Avon
The town's major retailers are Menard's, Lowes, Starbucks, and Target, on top of, quite figuratively, a number of smaller mom n' pop shops (whew, try saying that three times fast). Of course, another way to think of these establishments is to consider them major employers too. After all, those aren't robots serving you your coffee and pastry in the morning. At least not yet. But the town's ""official"" top employers include Harlan Bakeries, Acme Masking, and American Fasteners. Avon's median income is well over the national average, though not obscenely so, so expect a good dose of humility with the modestly upscale living you'll find in this town whose motto is "A Great Place to Live and Work." You hear that? Live AND work. Ask for anymore than that and you may as well be asking for the moon and stars.
Getting Busy in Avon
The crowning jewel of Avon is most definitely the Avon Town Hall Park. 83 acres of playgrounds, walking trails, botanical feasts for the eyes, and a golf course await you. Go ahead, pinch yourself, you'll find you aren't dreaming. If you're still not convinced, try dunking your head in the park's lake, a popular destination for those ""angling"" to do a little fishing. Face it, Avon is a recreation mecca when you take into account some of its other amenities, like the Avon Perennial Gardens, a flower lover's source of endless fascination - hence the name perennial, duh - located just a few minutes west of Indianapolis. Throw in mini-golf and even a haunted bridge and you've got yourself quite the Midwestern itinerary in the making.
Avon is home to a number of recurring events. You know, the kinds of things that put a place already on the map really on the map. The Avon Community Heritage Festival features games, bouncy castles, food, fireworks, and just about anything else a family would want to keep young and old alike entertained to no end. This includes competitions, the likes of which probably put the town's musical talent in the spotlight to begin with. The Hendricks County Rib Fest is no doubt Indiana's major source of finger licking injuries, and may even explain the origin of Avon's previous city name of White Lick. On the other hand (so to speak), upon last inspection barbeque sauce was still brown. Well, conspiracy theories aside, Avon's event schedule must be seen to be believed, as no amount of brochures or websites (yes, including this one) can do it justice. So get out there, go door-to-door if you must, and discover the fun to be had in Avon.
