ABOUT PORTLAND & PORTLAND APARTMENT RENTALS
The largest city in Oregon and the second largest in the northwest, this old logging town is consistently voted one of the most livable cities in America.
PORTLAND ATTRACTIONS
Portland is a vibrant, outdoorsy city full of things to see and to do.
With a climate ideal for growing roses, Portland has earned the moniker “The City of Roses.” To that end, Portland has many rose gardens, the most famous of which is the International Rose Test Garden, housed in Washington Park. Also in Washington Park you can visit Hoyt Arboretum, the Japanese Gardens and the Oregon Zoo. Some people say that expansive Washington Park is living proof that Portland has more park space than any other American city.
The Portland Farmers Market is a vibrant gathering place where friends meet and shop from over 250 vendors, including farms, nurseries, bakeries, meat and seafood providers, cheese makers, and specialty foods producers. There’s the Portland Saturday Market, an open air crafts market from March to December with entertainment by local performers and an international food court. Waterfront Park, sometimes called the heart and soul of Portland, hosts frequent parades and other celebrations.
PORTLAND DINING
The River Restaurant has great food and great views. Ten - 01 is a modern, stylish place for excellent seafood like oysters, fried soft-shelled crab, pan-seared sunfish and halibut cheeks, as well as a selection of cheeses and wines from around the world, including 30 different kinds of champagne. Good Dog/Bad Dog features chicken and pork sausage, while The Dog House is the perfect spot for a kosher beef frank with a little mustard and kraut. George’s Giant Hamburger is the place for thick and juicy burgers. Bandito Taco offers great food all week long, but the Sunday tacos for a buck are a particular favorite.
PORTLAND NIGHTLIFE
Portland is happening at night and a great place to start your nighttime adventure is Berbati’s. There’s a lounge and a nightclub equipped with two bars, stage lights and a great sound system. Or check out Pan or the Tonic Lounge for some of the biggest alternative music passing through Portland. The Roseland Theater packs a full house almost every night of the week for its live bands. Kelly’s Olympian offers a mix of live rock and DJ’s for your ears, and motorcycles hanging from the ceiling for your eyes. The White Eagle has a laid-back Victorian feel and the best of local folk and country acts on a low stage.
