ABOUT LOS ANGELES & LA APARTMENT RENTALS

The “City of Angels” is the heart of the world’s entertainment industry, and the home of many television and movie stars.  But LA’s strong cultural and aesthetic diversity extends far beyond Hollywood – there is art, theater, local and independent film, music, restaurant, and nightclubs to fill many lifetimes.

LOS ANGELES ATTRACTIONS

LA is one of the largest cities in the nation in terms of area as well as population.  Affectionately called an “urban sprawl,” it is full of many distinct and colorful neighborhoods: Venice is known for its artsy, bohemian beach boardwalk; Santa Monica has upscale, beach-side living and the Third Street Promenade, a great shopping area closed off to car traffic; and the different ethnic enclaves like Chinatown, Koreatown, Japantown, and the Jewish, Black and Hispanic areas are a huge part of LA’s rich social diversity.  There are also two world-renown universities in LA – UCLA and USC – each with their own sports teams, research facilities, cultural offerings, and Nobel laureates.

The Griffith Observatory offers the public the opportunity to learn about astrological and meteorological phenomena and enjoy breathtaking views of LA, including the famous “Hollywood” sign.  The renown J. Paul Getty Museum is a European and American art museum, research institute, and conservation institute that offers live music and educational seminars, a gorgeous outdoor café and garden, and incredible views of LA.  For a real visit to the past, check out the La Brea Tar Pits, home to prehistoric fossils.

For a taste of Hollywood, visit famous Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood Boulevard, and Universal Studios and soak in the sunny weather while reclining on one of LA’s many beautiful beaches.

LOS ANGELES DINING

When it comes to eating out, Los Angeles is a true food mecca.

Spago is the food-child of world famous chef Wolfgang Puck and is one of the most famous restaurants in LA.  For well-aged steaks in a famous steakhouse, you can’t beat Dan Tana’s which hasn’t changed its popular menu since its opening in 1964.  For ethnic cuisine you can start with Canter’s Deli for the best corned beef and matzo ball soup west of New York and for soul food try Roscoe’s House of Chicken N’ Waffles.  Good Mexican food is everywhere in Los Angeles.  Some favorites are the Gardens of Taxco, Yuca’s, Paco’s Tacos, or El Tepeyac.  For Asian cuisine, try the Foo Chow Restaurant.  Jackie Chan’s “Rush Hour” was shot there, but more importantly, the menu features one-of-a-kind dishes like chicken in red wine sauce.  Get some Korean barbecue at Wharo Korean BBQ Restaurant or some Japanese food at Sushi Fujiyoshi.  Or, for some American food, there’s Pink’s Hot Dogs, a Los Angeles tradition that’s a perennial favorite with the locals.

LOS ANGELES NIGHTLIFE

LA’s nightlife scene is overwhelming.  Try Viceroy’s Cameo Club and reserve a poolside cabana; listen to up-and-coming bands in an intimate setting at Spaceland; dance salsa at the huge Mayan nightclub; and listen to blues in the famous House of Blues.  There is always plenty to do in LA at any hour.
