See the city from the top of the Gateway Arch, perhaps the city’s best known landmark, 530 feet above the Mississippi River.  The Gateway Arch is part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial that commemorates the American acquisition of all lands west of the Mississippi that are part of the U.S. today.

Visit Forest Park, one of the largest parks in America with more than 1,300 acres (500 more than New York’s famed Central Park).  Forest Park was home to the 1904 World’s Fair that drew more than 19 million visitors from around the world. Today, it contains the Saint Louis Art Museum; Science Center; Zoo; Jewel Box Greenhouse; History Museum; the Muny Theatre; 7.5-miles of biking and jogging paths; lakes; and a skating rink.

Saint Louis also has many notable churches, such as the New Cathedral (formally called the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis), a large Roman Catholic cathedral designed in the Byzantine and Romanesque styles.  There is also the Old Cathedral (formally called the Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France), which is the oldest Roman Catholic cathedral west of the Mississippi River.

You can also visit the Challenger Learning Center right in Saint Louis and enjoy unique hands-on space simulation experiences.

Or come to the Live on the Levee under the Gateway Arch in July and see some of the biggest music acts in the country, while the annual Big Muddy Blues Festival welcomes the country’s top blues performers to the stage every Labor Day weekend.  Another free concert series, Blues on the Mississippi, takes place in June and September in Jefferson Barracks Park.  You can also ballroom dance the night away at the Casa Loma Ballroom, Saint Louis's last grand ballroom, or check out live music at the Landmark Hi Pointe Theater or The Complex.  DJs spin everything from hip-hop to jungle at Club Viva, while The Bistro at Grand Central books big-name jazz artists.
