For the adventurous, Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve is open to visitors year-round. With 6,096 square miles of open space, this is park allows you to experience the beauty of California in all of its vast splendor. Several of the historically active mines are still open and allow you to explore your city on weekend staycations. Tours are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, so getting to the park early is recommended in the summer months. Nearly 65 miles of trails allow you to decide to stay on the beaten path, or wander alongside it.

Hit up the Contra Costa County Fair during the fall, spring, or summer for an experience rich in local culture, great food, music, and fun. Each year, people in Antioch and most of the Contra Costa County come together to put on a festival and fair. Dates vary for the fair from year to year, but tend to be held several times throughout the year. There is a strong agricultural aspect to this fair, and livestock are usually present. Horse racing, fair games and rides, and other exciting experiences await. The fall fair is particularly large, and is often the largest of the year.
