The Octagon Center fo

When it comes to artistic exhibitions, you cannot go wrong with a visit to the Octagon Center for the Arts. The quality of work on display here is probably what one would expect in a major metropolitan museum or gallery. Located appropriately enough in the cultural district in downtown Ames, this nonprofit organization has served the city since 1966. The Gallery offers work from local area artists covering a range of disciplines, from visual art to crafts. The Center also sponsors art-related classes for the community, as well as various events open to the public so it is rarely hard to expand your art horizons.

The Old Town Historic

To many, one of the great pleasures of life to feel as if you are walking through history. This feat is made possible with a visit Ames’ Old Town Historic District. Here you can tour historic homes and buildings that date back as far as the late 1800s. The architecture of the homes from this early period of American history is very distinctive and come with their own stories to tell. This historic district offers a perfect place to take a walking tour of the area and soak up the historical culture surrounding you.

North Grand Mall

Small towns can have great malls too and Ames is no exception thanks to the North Grand Mall. If you want to experience quality shopping or just want a fun environment to hang out in with family and friends, then this is the ideal place for you. The North Grand Mall has over 50 signature stores, many of which are brand-name shopping destinations with high quality items. This includes such stores as the Gap, Eddie Bauer, and JCPenney. Make a day of it with a variety of restaurants and quick bite options at the food court.
