Frontier Day events includes activities like a shoot out performance by the Alvin Rotary Club Gunfighters, carnival rides, and a barbecue cook off. Additional celebrations in Alvin include the Hometown Festival, held over Labor Day weekend, and the annual Crawfest. Crawfest is a fundraiser held in National Oak Park that features arts, crafts, fun, and plenty of that delicious food.

Alvin’s Famous Son

Alvin can thank more than cattle ranchers and the Santa Fe Railroad for its unique place in history. Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan moved to the city in 1947 and lived here until 2003, making it the city’s biggest claim to fame. So, whether you’re a diehard Ryan fan and know how many strikeouts he pitched in his career (5,714) or simply want to find out about this famous Alvin resident, head over to Alvin Community College for some education on the Ryan Express. The Nolan Ryan Museum is part of the Nolan Ryan Foundation and covers the life and career of the famous pitcher. Feeling brave?     Alvin is located in Brazoria County. Until very recently, Brazoria was a "damp" county, meaning only buy beer with low alcohol content was available for purchase. Although Brazoria County is now a "wet" county, Galveston County has a better selection. That said, Alvin is home to a few watering holes. Most bars are located in downtown Alvin, at the intersection of Main St and Morris Ave, such as Silver Spur Saloon and My Place.
