You Know You’re Moving When…
By MyNewPlace Guest Blogger, Autumnn Darden
To be honest, I’ve personally made a residential move only once in my life. However, I have helped hundreds of people coordinate moves of all shapes, sizes and distances. Because of those experiences, I’m going to go ahead and assume that qualifies me to make a list about the stresses of moving. If you have any of these symptoms, it may be a sign that you should step away from the boxes and take a little break. After all, you want to arrive at your new place with a smile on your face, not on the verge of a complete meltdown!
(Keep in mind that this list is all in good fun. If you’re really stressing out about moving, then I suggest a) calling your doctor, or b) calling U-Pack. Just a thought.)
You Know You’re Moving When…
1. It looks like ‘cardboard’ is the latest décor for your living room.
2. You don’t want to let your refrigerated foods go to waste (but can’t take them with you), so the last few meals in your old home consist of frozen TV dinners and freezer-burned popsicles.
3. Thanks to too many days of carefully packing your items, ‘Tetris’ is no longer your favorite Smartphone application.
4. You once shuddered at the idea of waking early on a Saturday morning; now, having a garage sale is a regular weekend occurrence. (What better way to weed out the items you wouldn’t want cluttering your new home?)
5. Those pieces of Bubble Wrap that you used to pop just for fun? Well, it’s no longer a game (hey, dish safety is a serious matter).
The great news is that while moving is certainly a big task, it doesn’t have to be super stressful. Choose a reputable moving company, plan your moving day strategy in advance, and don’t sweat the small stuff. Remember that moving is temporary, and try to focus on all the great places you’ll get to explore in your new hometown!
