Celebrity Roommate Court: Mr. Reinhold’s Final Judgment (Part 3)

Court was adjourned for the day by Judge Reinhold so that he may deliberate about the statute of limitations on Ms. Aniston’s right of first refusal towards her romantic campaign on hotstuff bartender Brad Pitt. If this statement seems outlandish and befuddling, you can read Celebrity Court posts Part One and Part Two.

Judge Reinhold: Alright, I have thought about this, and have come to a decision. Let’s review our findings:

  • So Ms. Aniston, it seems as though you made your intentions and method clear to Ms. Jolie at the very outset of this whole affair by informing her of your attraction and even divulging the fact that you had a long range circumstantial game in place. To me, regardless of intent, this establishes a roommate agreement that Ms. Jolie should not pursue Mr. Pitt.
  • The question here then becomes, at what point and under what circumstances does Ms. Aniston’s unfettered access to Mr. Pitt expire or become null? The first and easy answer is if Ms. Aniston withdraws her right. This could happen in two ways: admitting that her wooing plan is totally not working or that she herself has tired of the game. This withdrawal of Ms. Aniston’s right of first refusal may legitimately be prompted by a simple inquiry on the part of Ms. Jolie.
  • This, however, was not the case. Ms. Aniston did not relinquish her right of pursuit, nor did Ms. Jolie inform her roommate that her stubborn refusal to give up the ghost was impinging upon both her and, more importantly, Mr. Pitt’s romantic freedom. Mr. Pitt’s freedom in this case is ‘more important’ because Ms. Jolie had already accepted (simply by virtue of the fact that she knew that her roommate liked Mr. Pitt) that her freedom would be abridged in this respect.
  • Was there evidence that Ms. Aniston was abusing her right of first refusal? I would say yes, but there was no way that either party could know it until it was too late – Mr. Pitt and Ms. Jolie’s eventual relationship,
  • Thus, the bigger infraction is the fact that Ms. Jolie failed to bring to Ms. Aniston’s attention the fact that Ms. Aniston was being unfair to both Ms. Jolie and her interest, and instead reneged on their implicit agreement roommate and acted deceptively to bring about a series of events that would make the agreement between the two of them impossible and untenable.
  • Hereafter, it be established that Ms. Jolie provide Ms. Aniston (and occasionally Judge Reinhold) with free Racer 5s. Furthermore, the burden falls in Ms. Jolie for exercising a certain amount of discretion around the apartment. The lesson here is that communication between roommates is necessary even in uncomfortable situations. It’s actually much easier to ignore the hard subjects when you are friends, but if living with your friends requires attentiveness, understanding and communication.
