If someone could help me out with this, it would be much appreciated.
About one month ago, on a bright and calm, rather pleasant evening, I decided to stay at home watching movies on account of the fact that my roommates were all out of town, a strange and unsettling occurrence rattled my nerves and eventually prompted the purchase of a night light.
Now, this was not the type of situation where you are just kind of sitting around minding your own business when a ghost just shows up and starts haunting the hell out of you for some kind of mysterious transgression on the dead; rather, this was more of an eerie, gnaw at your subconscious and freak you out until your roommates think you are insane kind of situation.
This is exactly what happened that night:
I was watching a non scary movie in the front living room of our apartment. During a commercial, I walked towards the bathroom at the back of our apartment along the long hallway that runs alongside the living room, room of many functions and kitchen. Just as I reached the top of the stairwell, I distinctly heard a voice say “Matt!" The voice was curt and maternal, not forceful, but not without intent. One could compare it to the voice a teacher would use to both get your attention and begin a line of questioning.
My Apartment

I first assumed it was just a matter of coincidence and that the commercial happened to include my name or a similar sounding word. However, the voice was much louder and very different from a voice that you'd hear on TV, certainly not the typical voice that you'd hear on a commercial trying to sell something. Not only that, but for a solid ten seconds, no sound emanated from the television. After ten seconds of creepy silence, the TV zapped back on and I could clearly hear the contrived happy dialog present in most commercials.
I am not a supernaturally oriented person. My first thought was not “whoa that was weird," but “whoa that was weird, but I still need to go to the bathroom," and after checking to make sure that there was no one in the house, I continued on with my mundane activities. If it were not for what happened next, I probably would blamed that lousy Comcast and never given the voice much though and our power bill wouldn't be so high.
However, about a half hour later, I was in the front living room on the couch, a little on edge (that voice stubbornly stuck in my head) when a book on the mantle not 3 feet from where I sat fell on the floor. The book had been laying face down on the mantle and there is no way it would have fallen on its own. Also, on the mantle were many other items in much more precarious positions, but for some reason this book was knocked to the ground. The second arrow in the floor plan above shows the relative position of the fireplace, right next to the TV.
My defense consisted of turning on every single light in the apartment and grabbing a six pack from the fridge (as ghosts, bears and giving speeches are much less scary after a few casuals). Since the phenomena occurred on either side of the fireplace, I suspected it to be the residence of the unholy beast and I sat on the couch, opened a beer, turned off the TV and waited for any sign of an escalation in haunting tactics.
Since then, silence. No otherworldly encounters of any kind, no mysterious happenings, nothing. It's either the calm before the storm, I am beginning to lose my grasp on reality or we are paying way too much for rent.
Has anyone ever encountered any kind of haunting in their apartment? Has anyone every moved out of their place because of strange occurrences?

ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I HAVE HEARD OF IS WHEN YOU HEAR THE SPIRITS, ASK THEM WHAT THEY WANT. USUALLY THEY WILL GO AWAY AND NOT BOTHER YOU ANT MORE.

Fun post! I've never actually experienced any paranormal activity in any of my living spaces before, though I've always found the subject of haunted houses very intriguing. Especially during this month!

Matt, I've had some experience with a spirit. My husband and I both heard him talking to us and for awhile it was un-nerving. We found out that some furniture we had purchased second hand belonged to someone who passed. We were told to talk to him cause he can hear you. In my case, I was told to ask him not to hurt us, that he was dead and he needed to leave. For quite a while afterward, I knew he was still there but he never harmed or spoke to us again. We eventually sold the furniture and he was disappeared. Hope that helps.

Wow, sounds like you had a really eery time. However, I remember one night while I laid dreaming, someone in my dream was running after me. I tried my best to open my eyes and wake-up because the eerie creature in my dreams, was right on top of me. Nevertheless, when I did manage to open my eyes the creature in my dreams was in front of my face staring at me with the most lucrative smile that you could ever imagine. Therefore, it did not matter whether my eyes were opened or closed, the creature who was after me, was still there trying to grab me. In fact,it was so real that I actually felt him touch me. Thus, it was a very frightening episode.

Hey, I live in the South. Things like that definitely happen around here in the rural communities.
I was in a mobile home when that happened to me. It was a rental. I later found out the teenaged boy who had had my bedroom had lived there with his divorced mother rented the boat dock down the gravel road(private road). They lived there almost a year when he and his friends went swimming near dark. He ended up drowning and I have a teenaged boy and my daughter was older. My daughter had not heard about the drowning but her boyfriend had read it in the newspaper and my son had heard of it also as they generally remember when someone goes swimming at night at the lakes here and has an accident. Friends always swim out and try to save the person but sometimes they have been drinking. This happens here and I hate it.
We have all these campgrounds at the lakes. I heard a boy's voice say Hello in my bedroom(his bedroom). They had taken down all of his posters after his death but left up the many large staples in the walls. I did not like that so when I moved in, I removed all of the staples. He had had other things other than posters on some of them(art work). It was very disconcerting to find out that he had died and that was his bedroom. I am Catholic and I had put up a blessed crucifix on the bedroom wall but he said hello after that. I actually said hello back wondering what in the world was going on. No answer. I found an arrowhead, goldplated, dangling on a cabinet door in the living room after that with a black silk string. It was a necklace. I wondered about that.
I heard later that the rental manager's daughter who lived below the hill had been given that necklace and she had left it in the rental after he died and they cleaned it up to rent out. I removed the necklace from the cabinet door when I moved. I think maybe it was keeping his spirit there. I am not sure. I would hear things drop but find nothing on the floor which may have dropped. Very wierd. He liked heavy metal music and wore black most of the time I found out from my daughter's boyfriend. He played video games alot for kids(not advanced types). He was only 14 when he moved in and then died at 15. I looked at the yearbook from my son's middle school. His photo was in it. I saw it. I still have the arrowhead necklace and live on the other side of the lake. The landlord sold the rental after I moved out. No one moved in but they remodeled it halfway. Now, in the paper, it is for sale again. I wonder.

Wow. That's quite a situation. I hate it when you move into a new place thinking that things are awesome, and then you realize that you're not alone in the same living space with a ghost. One of the sure ways to get those “spirits" from bothering you is to burn sage in the house, put salt on all your doorways, window openings, and around your bed, and put a silver cross somewhere near your bed. If the spirit STILL bothers you, always YELL at it and let it KNOW who's boss. Tell it that the apartment is now YOUR dwelling and that if it wants to stay, it'll have to abide by YOUR rules. (ie. where it can and can't go, what it can and can't do when it's around you or your family members, etc.) If it STILL doesn't go away, or is still a pest, You might need a pastor or priest come visit and bless the house. If you still need help, write more here and I can see what I can find for you.

As far as ghosts in your apartment, they could be evil spirits. There is no such thing as a ghost. Talk to your neighbors and try to find out who lived there before you. Maybe they practiced witchcraft.
You need to go to a church where you can accept Jesus Christ as Lord and be baptized in water and of the Holy Spirit (get Saved). Then learn how to do what the Bible says – bind nd loode – bind every evil spirt and command them to leave you living quarters in the Name of Jesus Christ. Loose the peace of God in your living quarters. And get deliverance from the spirit of fear. When you are saved you are armed with the name and authority of Jesus Christ – evil spirits fear you.
What not to do….go to a Reader and Advisor – especially if they are astrologers or read tarot cards. You may as well get used to being around demonic spirits because that is what will happen to you. It will get worse -that is a fact.
Buy a Bible and meditate on the word of God. These tips work for the children of God – not unbelievers.
If you think this is fanatical- it is not. Authority over the powers of darkness is a daily reality for the baptized born again believers of Jesus Christ – know as the saints. The Kingdom of God manifests in the Belivers and when you exercise Godly authority over the powers of darkness – the Kingdom of God is manifesting.
Suggested scriptures:
Luke 17:19-21 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.)
Luke11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
Ephesians 6:10-18
Matthew 16:19
Luke 10:19
I hope you really do this.

wow, all due respect to you Darlene…your personal beliefs are just that, and to tell this young man to go to church and be saved? really? how is it that you know that ghosts dont exist or that Matt experienced this because he does not have Jesus in his life..how do you know he doesnt?
I find your pre-judgement of him disrespectful and annyoing….preaching God to some one when you have absolutely no idea of their Faith or belief ? really?
Matt, many of us have had similar experiences, it does not mean that you are evil or the spirits are evil…if it is not reoccuring they may have been just passing through..if it continues then ask they why they are there and tell them they need to move on and be at peace. good luck !

I have ghosts in my rented trailer. They have never harmed us. Just ignore them and dont give them your energy to materialize more often

I have lived in haunted houses all my life and have never been hurt by anything. My kids named the spirit in my home Henry and I sure do miss him when there is nothing going on for long periods. Silly things like things flying off shelves or things not being where I left them. To me it is fun to know that whom ever visits me feels as safe with me as I do with him. I do have one spirit who has fun with my stuff and do get miffed when I can't find something that I know was supposed to be in a certain place. Some things I have never found, others show up in really funny places. Sometimes I even talk to them. No I am not crazy, just used to it. My kids and grandkids have also been known to talk to them. Just enjoy that fact that whatever it is is comfortable with you and usually doesn't mean you any harm. They are just letting you know that you are never really walk alone.

Yeah matt it was a spirit you encountered. No need to fear. tell them to go home. They might be stuck for watever reason. Or maybe it was your spirit guide, trying to get your attention or a deceased relative paying a visit. In any case your not crazy. Therez more to this world than what can be seen.

look hunni if you think you got ghost well it happens all over the place . we have had many of them always around us and my family. my husband seems to be a magnet for them . they always around it seem like alot of them are confused some just say hi some just wants to know you see them . asking them what they want is not a way for them to go away. really hunni your stuck w/ them. we had one that was an older woman in our old apt here in waterville it was a 1800 apt. building and she'd stood over my son just watching him. we asumed lived there once and had a child in that room. one time she showed herself and kept standing there so i checked my son she went away after but not for long . she kepting watch, when we moved in my son was 11 years old when we moved out he now 17 years old she followed him to here. and still once in awahile we can feel her still watching over him as she has for 6 years.
