    Great Land Use and Great Beer in Portland

    Portland, or PDX for the tech-heads, is known alternately as the City of Roses, Stumptown, Bridgetown, Rip City and Little Beirut. It is famous for its love of mind-altering drinks - nothing illegal, but there are more coffee shops and microbreweries in Portland than in most other cities across the nation.

    Driving Round the City of Roses

    Portland is generally an extremely walkable city, with a walkability factor of 97 out of 100. However the area around Lewis and Clark University scores only 23 out of 100 for walkability, being somewhat away from the center of town. If you can make it a mile, you have access to bars, coffee shops, grocery stores and restaurants without harming the environment.

    For those who prefer to go car-less, TriMet operates both buses and light rail across the city, and the strong urban planning of the region makes it fairly easy to navigate.

    Portland, Oregon is home to some of the world's strangest annual events ... while you won't find wife carrying or cheese races here, you will find oddities like the Annual Elephant Garlic Festival, Arg-Fest-o-Con and the Robin Hood Festival. There is also a more usual festival and event calendar, featuring the Missisippi Ave Street Fair, Orgeon Brewer's Festival, and a Grape stomping festival at St Josef's Winery.

    Apartments A-Plenty in Portland

    There are plenty of apartments and other housing for rent in Portland, and prices are quite reasonable. If your housing budget is up to $600 per month, you can find a good selection of one to two bedroom apartments in the city. Most are between five and ten miles away from Lewis and Clark University.
