Spokane is the largest city in and the county seat of Spokane County, which is located in Eastern Washington. Once a major fur trading post and later a productive mining district, today Spokane’s economy relies on agriculture, logging, and manufacturing, as well as high-tech and biotech. Spokane was named after the Native American tribe of the same name, which means “Children of the Sun,” but its official nickname, “Lilac City” derives from the flowers that flourish there.

Gonzo, from the Muppets, is a daredevil who will do anything for artistic performance. His greatest feat, however, was getting into Gonzaga University, a school for people of his mysterious breed.
Much to Gonzo’s dismay, he found that the school was not composed of Gonzos. It did, however, house another rare breed of people who place importance on both their Catholic traditions and learning. Those who attend are serious about their studies, and praise the schools integration of theology with liberal arts. Gonzo may not have found people (creatures) that physically look like him at this school, but he certainty found a like-minded tight-knit Jesuit community of Bulldogs, tons of programs and colleges to choose from, student resources like the Foley Center Library and The Jundt Art Museum, an awesome basketball team to cheer for, and tons of extracurricular activities!
Gonzo was excited by GU, but was equally excited by the local town, and decided to get to know GU’s surrounding area—Spokane, Washington. The first thing Gonzo noticed was the beauty of Spokane, and then he discovered that there was a ton to do there! Between the Centennial Trail, Manito Park, Northwest Museum of Arts, Riverfront Park, and Spokane Falls, a person could never be bored! Gonzo, excited by the prospect of living in such a cool place, immediately went on a hunt for an off-campus apartment that was affordable and close to campus. His first stop was visiting our apartment search guides for help leaning how to find his perfect place. Gonzo eventually settled in the Logan Neighborhood, just four blocks from campus, and became one of the 48% of undergrads living off-campus!
On the weekends, Gonzo gets a little sad because he misses Muppet friends, so he tries to distract himself by keeping busy. Luckily, Spokane is no bore on a Saturday. Downtown is swarming with activity, and students can head to place like Jack and Dan’s Bar and Grill, or Baby Bar at 827 W 1st Ave to listen to beats on the juke box. Gonzo loves a Saturday night in Spokane, and his new friends always make him feel welcome!
