    Stellar Education

Did you know that Louisiana Tech University is a space grant college and actually conducts research for NASA? Whatever you major in, you’re sure to discover new worlds (and the effects of two hours of sleep on your psyche) at this great school. While known especially for its engineering programs, Louisiana Tech offers dozens of degrees in its five academic colleges. Located in Ruston, Louisiana, this public university enrolled 11,581 students in the Fall 2001 quarter, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding a study buddy and/or tenor for your new a capella group. Along with boasting numerous degrees and a spirited student body, Louisiana Tech is one of the most affordable universities in the country. You’ll be so proud to attend Louisiana Tech, you’ll invite Champ and Tech (the school mascots) to Cancun for spring break.

    No Way to RAs

75% of students at Louisiana Tech say the added freedom makes living off-campus worthwhile. If you’re not into RAs breathing down your neck, or questionable dining hall spaghetti, take the words of LA Tech alumni to heart and look for an apartment as soon as possible. You’ll find an assortment of multi-unit complexes in the Ruston area. If you’ve got the extra cash to spend (or think you can live off of ramen all year), there are apartments with amenities like pools and sports courts available. Wherever you choose to live, you might want to consider sharing the space with roommates. Check out our college life guide for advice on how not to strangle your roommate for eating your last frozen burrito.

    Off-Campus Relief

When a week of cramming and awkward oral presentations bogs you down, you’ll have plenty of places to turn to for relief off Louisiana Tech’s campus. If you don’t own a car or can’t bum a ride with a roomie, the best way to get around is to walk. Throw on your red and blue and head over to Dawg House Sports Grill or Rabb’s Steakhouse for food, drinks, and plenty of commiserating with fellow Bulldogs and Lady Techsters. Are two-hour lectures not your idea of non-stop action? Stop by the Celebrity Theatre and take in a flick with your buddies from Introduction to Microprocessors. With all there is to do off campus in Ruston, you’ll never have to resort to organizing flash mobs at Centennial Plaza (however cool that might be.)
