About Reno, NV

Reno is best known as “The Biggest Little City in the World,” and its nickname is due in no small part to its famous casinos. • University of Nevada, Reno

    Lasers and Learning

Sports teams at the University of Nevada, Reno are nicknamed the Wolf Pack. Unlike the Wolf Pack in the movie “The Hangover” this school is well-respected, organized, and keeps a safe distance from Mike Tyson. Ranked among the top 500 universities in the world, the University of Nevada, Reno offers an unparalleled college experience. Did you know that it’s home to one of the most powerful lasers in the country: a terawatt-class high-intensity laser system? Whether you’re here to study physics or see how many classmates you can hit with a laser pointer from your apartment window, you’ll have a wonderful experience. This teaching and research university, established in 1874, is home to leaders in the fields of journalism, and environmental literature—not just lasers. Best of all? It’s pretty darn affordable.

    Privacy and Proximity

The Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno has produced six Pulitzer Prize winners. Whether you need a place quiet enough to get some writing done or simply one in close proximity to chimichangas, you’ll find what you need off campus. The best time to look for an apartment is around midterms during the Spring semester. You’ll find an assortment of multi-unit complexes (some with fitness centers and sports courts) and one-bedroom apartments scattered around town. Be sure to check out our apartment hunting guide for help finding the perfect roommate (you know, like one who doesn’t snore or blast smooth jazz all day.)

    The Real Reno

While the thought of a mass pillow fight on The Quad may be fun, college officials might frown upon it. Luckily, there are plenty of OTHER fun things to do to help kill the “20-page term paper blues.“ Head over to The Little Waldorf Saloon. For a more relaxing environment, visit Anibel’s. Enjoy a delicious coffee and hop online to check out embarrassing photos from last night’s party. If you’re up for research that’s SFW (safe for work), visit the Nevada Historical Society and learn what Reno was like before “Reno 911!” changed everyone’s expectations. If you don’t have wheels (or are just too tired from yesterday’s nine-hour cram session) you can hop onboard the RTC Sierra Spirit to explore the city.
