About Panama City, FL

Panama City is located in Florida’s panhandle, situated on the Gulf of Mexico, it is the county seat of Bay County and at 36,484 people, it is the largest city between Pensacola and Tallahassee. The city was not always called Panama City. Originally, it was named Harrison, but in the early 1900s, when the United States took over the Panama Canal project, a developer named George West gave the town its present name in hopes of promoting development in the area.
