About Marietta, GA

With a population of over 56,500, Marietta is one of Atlanta’s largest suburbs; it lies about 20 miles northwest of the state capital. It is also the largest city in Cobb County, Georgia, as well as the county seat. Some believe that Marietta was named for Mary Cobb, who was married to US Senator and superior court Judge Thomas Willis Cobb, after whom Cobb County was named, but the origin of the city’s name cannot be confirmed.
