Historically, Garland, TX was born when the North Texas towns of Embree and Duck Creek merged. The town was named after U.S. Attorney General Augustus Hill Garland, and was incorporated in 1891. Present day Garland has a population of 226,876 and is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, located northeast of Dallas. In 2008, Garland was ranked #67 on CNN and Money Magazine’s Top 100 Places to Live. Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems is Garland’s top employer with 3,500 employees.
