Northwestern University, or “Ivy of the Midwest,” is so named for its prestigious academics as well as its amazing athletic teams. With more than 150 undergraduate majors to choose from and one of the top law and med schools in the nation, this private university is gaining a lot of attention globally. The university is located in Evanston, IL, a college town just northwest (heh) of Chicago. The NCAA Division I Wildcats are a part of the Big Ten conference, with plenty of titles to brag about. Just see for yourself as you cheer with your classmates at the next football game. Better get used to wearing purple.
You already took out a ton of loans (or your parents are paying tens and thousands of dollars) for tuition, so it’d be pretty ridiculous if you’re expected to shell out even more cash for the dorms. There’s plenty of affordable off-campus housing options around Evanston and Chicago, if you don’t mind the commute. Most of the rental listings around the school are condo units in larger buildings, as well as the occasional single-family home. Grab a couple friends and take advantage of the extremely affordable rates and start living luxuriously while still in school. Read our blog about college life if you are renting for the first time or visit Northwestern’s off-campus housing page for more info.
Evanston is the quintessential college town, although it is in complete denial. The students really abide by a “word hard, play hard” mentality, but we rarely hear of the latter. However, just given the location, Evanston is a great town. It borders Chicago, which is what? The 3rd largest city in the United States? There is never going to be a dull moment. Evanston itself is a small town, but the local bars such as The Keg are great places to pregame before an exciting night out in Chi-Town. Notable Alumnus:Stephen Colbert
