The city of Covington is located on Kentucky’s northern border, just south of the Ohio city of Cincinnati. Covington is what is referred to by the Kentucky state legislature as a 2nd class city—the state ranks cities in tiers based on their populations, and Covington falls into the 2nd class, which is 20,000 to 99,999 residents. Covington is listed as having 40,640 residents as of the 2010 census, making it one of the top five most populated cities in the entire state of Kentucky.
