Anchorage, Alaska is the northernmost city in the entire United States with over 100,000 residents. The city has nearly 300,000 people who live within its borders, which makes the city the biggest in the entire state. Anchorage is unique in that it is a unified home rule municipality—meaning that it is a city, a municipal corporation, and a county all in one. It has the political powers of each of those entities. Four times, Anchorage has been named an All-America City by the National Civic League.
