About Manhattan, KS

  • Kansas State University

    Wildcats on the Prairie

Get ready to get social in Manhattan—Manhattan, Kansas that is. Yet this Manhattan has no lack of social activity since it houses the fine young things that attend Kansas State University. KSU offers many ways to get to know your peers. Aside from offering over 250 undergraduate majors, KSU also brings to the table over 450 organizations, fraternities, and sororities to join. Get this, the school even has its own golf course and an insect museum! I just gave you two awesomely quirky first-date options. Your welcome, Wildcats. Yet before you get too crazy with your dating lives, you might want to pick a field of study. If research gets you randy, you've come to the right place, since Kansas State University is well-known for its Biosecurity Research Institute. KSU has funded projects surrounding issues of food safety, animal health, cancer, and stem cells. Popular majors include Marketing, Agriculture, and Education.

    Moving in on Manhattan

Scoring a good apartment in Manhattan, Kansas requires medium effort. Prices are higher near campus, but it's still possible to find a good deal. However, no household comes without rules. Even if you choose Greek life, sororities and fraternities enforce mandatory study hours and community service. What you can choose is what type of place you want to live in. From duplexes to apartment buildings to individual houses, you'll find a nook to fill. Poppin' areas include Aggieville and Founder’s Hill. There are a couple of college-kid-raided apartment complexes in the area, giving you the opportunity to create your own off-campus party zone. Start looking between January and March for the best deals.

    Run Amock in Manhattan

Teeney-tiney Manhattan Kansas is the kind of town that is asleep by 10 pm. However, the college has a great presence here. Aggieville, headquarters of the young and restless, is the most lively part of town, lined with bars, bookstores, and coffee shops enough to fulfill the recreational activities and vices necessary for college-living. Shimmy on the dancefloor after a couple magaritas at PJ's Restaurant and Pub. To get the lay of the land, stop by the KSU Insect Zoo. When you are feeling competitive, stop by the Wildcat Creek Sports Center.

    Using Your Legs

Manhattan is a manually-operated city--you only need to use your legs. It is not big enough for a bus system, and campus is walkable. For those weekly grocery runs, you might want to invest in a friendship that includes a car, or pay your way to your own vehicle ownership.
