Gainesville is a city located in the northern region of central Florida. Gainesville is Alachua County’s county seat, and it houses the county’s government. As of 2010, the population in Gainesville was almost 125,000, making it a medium sized city in the state of Florida. Gainesville is home to two major colleges—Sante Fe College and the University of Florida. In 2007, the city won the ranking of #1 place to live in North America from the Cites Ranked and Ranked publication.
