About Norman, OK

  • University of Oklahoma

Boomer! Sooner! The athletic tradition of the University of Oklahoma is one of the most phenomenal in the nation. OU participates in the Big 12 Conference and has won 18 NCAA championships, including 7 football national titles. However, despite this gung-ho athleticism and fandom, the students of OU have no idea really what a Sooner really is. The mascot comes in the shape of a horse, but it’s really a nickname that was given to an early settler back in the day. Anyway, beyond athletics, Oklahoma offers hundreds of bachelors, graduate, and post-grad programs, including 152 majors. The OU campus also houses two museums with Impressionist art, has 350 student organizations on campus, and hosts a variety of intramural sports that are just as fun as NCAA leagues to play in and watch.

    Renting in Norman

All freshman students of OU are required to live on campus, but after the first year, many opt to find their own apartments. Since Oklahoma has a relatively low cost of living, students would be saving a lot of money if they choose to live off-campus. Another great thing is that Norman, Oklahoma has recently seen an increase in apartment development. Only 33% of the school lives on campus, and the rest, you’ll find scattered in Norman, as well as in the nearby cities of Moore and Oklahoma City. There’s a variety of apartment units and condos available in our listings as well as single-family homes if you are willing to pay more or live with a large group. Things to Do With Your Free Time

Oklahoma students comment on the warmth of Norman’s small-town feel. It’s a college town, that’s for sure, and there are plenty of activities for students to participate in outside of the classroom. The Campus Corner is a popular spot in the city where many of favorite shops and restaurants are located, and the ideal place to bar-hop with friends. But if Norman just doesn’t cut it for you anymore (especially when you’ve been out and about in the same places for four years), Oklahoma City is just a half hour away.
