About Grand Forks, ND

  • University of North Dakota

    Jet-Fueled Academics

The John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences at University of North Dakota is famous for training pilots from all over the world. Whether you’re gearing up to fly a Cessna 172 Skyhawk or you’d sooner swim across the ocean than board a plane, you’ll receive a great education here. The largest university in the state, UND enrolls approximately 14,000 students, roughly half of which hail from the North Dakota. If you need directions to Bismarck or have a question about the accuracy of the movie “Fargo,” you’ll have plenty of people to turn to. You’ll certainly be chanting “It's For You, North Dakota U” with your fellow classmates. That, and wearing so much green, white, and black you spark a national fashion trend.

    Apartments with Great Views

Along with boasting professors of above average knowledge, the University of North Dakota is home to approximately 230 student organizations, including the people-watching group 2nd Nut. Speaking of people-watching, you’ll be able to do plenty of that from a great off-campus apartment. You’re bound to spot a few bookworms and wild partiers from one of the multi-unit complexes available in nearby Warren or Thief River Falls. If you don’t feel like lurking in your room like a weirdo all year, you can always cut back on rent and find a roommate or two to lurk with yout. Take a look at our college life guide for help tracking down roommates so entertaining you’ll never have to stare out the window for fun.

    Value-Priced Partying

Staging a mass “Beat It” sing-along at Chester Fritz Library might seem like a great idea, but there are plenty of fun things to do around UND’s campus that don’t involve annoying studious classmates. Grand Forks is one of the most affordable campus towns, so you’ll be able to party and still have money left over for next week’s ramen. The best way to get around town is to walk, but if you’re too tired from a week of essays and headaches, take a ride in a Cities Area Transit (CAT) bus. Stop by the popular Gilly's Bar and Grill and dance away last night’s 5 a.m. cram session. You’re bound to be hungry after all that moving. Visit Rhombus Guys Pizza for a slice and some deep conversation with that dude in your Physical Anthropology and Archaeology class. If you’ve had enough with staring at “Animal House” and Bob Marley posters all week, check out the North Dakota Museum of Art.
