About Stevens Point, WI

  • University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point

Did you know that Belleville is the “UFO Capital” of Wisconsin, according to Anything and Everything Wisconsin? Good thing the University of Wisconsin is in Stevens Point.

    Academic Aliens

Let’s say that a UFO gets lost on its way to Belleville and ended up in Stevens Point. It would probably descend from the sky and aliens would make first contact with a UW-Stevens Point student. Luckily, the student will be a fine representative of the human race because she will be well-versed in many subjects, and be on the way to becoming an expert in her chosen field of study. She will tell the alien about her wonderful classes and professors and how much she enjoys going to office hours for extra help and chats with teachers that want her to be successful. The alien will be impressed that the school offers everything from the school of communicative disorders to the college of fisheries and water resources.

    How do you Live?

The Alien will impart knowledge of the universe and information about other intelligent beings that he has come across to the student. He will want to learn more about the human race, so he will ask, “how do you live?” The student replies, “why, I live the high life in my off-campus apartment. It is both affordable and convenient because I get my privacy and it is still within walking/biking distance of campus. Mind you, I started looking for a place early, and with my roommates!” The alien is wowed by the high quality of living Earthlings have. “How did you find your new place?” The student answers (with confidence), “I used an apartment search guide to help me learn how to find something that suits me best!”

    How do you Have Fun?

The alien, convinced that the student’s situation is too good to be true, says, “Well, you must lead a very boring life outside of school and your apartment.” The student, with a smirk on her face says, “Oh quite the contrary, my good sir. Stevens Point might have a small town feel, but it is great running in to familiar faces and always having people to hang out with. Whether I am doing an activity put on by a student club or organization, playing an IM sport, shopping, eating at a local restaurant, or hanging at the bars with my friends, I am always having a great time in Stevens Point!” “Wait,” says the alien, “I thought we were in Belleville...”
