Nestled among the peaceful walnut and citrus groves of the San Fernando Valley, California State University Northridge is large school, and a young school compared to a lot of colleges–a it was only founded about 50 years ago! That doesn’t mean it lacks for resources, however: the school offers bachelors degrees, masters programs, and even a doctorate program in education. The campus is home to the National Center On Deafness, and Cal State also opens its doors each year to host a number of large public events. This public school, which enrolls roughly 36,000 every year, doesn’t lack for famous alumni, either—Paula Abdul, Eva Mendes, and Richard Dreyfus all went here, once upon a time.
We’ll be honest, apartments in the Northridge area tend to be expensive. However, they are generally worth the price, when you consider that many of them come with 24-hour gym facilities, outdoor pools, and garages, not to mention slender palm trees lining the sidewalk. And over 90% of your classmates choose to live off-campus, so there’s gotta be a good reason why. A veritable California dream...and if you're on a budget, you might luck out with units in modest two or three story complexes in the Reseda area. There is the CSUN shuttle that can take you to different locations in and around campus. For refreshing, off-campus exploration, head northeast from town to the enormous Angeles National Forest. Northridge is surrounded by other parks like Pico Canyon, Rocky Peak, Topanga State Park, and Malibu Creek, too. The town itself is pretty devoid of nightclubs, so many students trek out to Hollywood when they want to have a serious night out. There are usually a lot of parties around campus on any given weekend, if you’re sticking close to home. Browse the website Jointz Mag to get a sense of what's happening in the area.
