Grand Valley State University emphasizes both creativity and critical thinking, so you can learn to write like a philosopher and think like an artist. Notable Grand Valley State minds include Greg Colton, writer and director of Family Guy, and Tommy Remengesau, former president of the Republic of Palau—two great examples of the all-encompassing education you can get at GVSU. Not too shabby. As if that weren't enough, Grand Valley State University is above the mark in its athletics as well. GVSU has won the Director's Cup as best NCAA Division II athletic program seven times.

More modern apartment buildings offer some classy amenities such as pool tables and common areas. Many students settle near 48th Avenue.
