Montclair State University is one of the only universities in America to offer a PhD in Environmental Management. Whether you’re interested in saving trees or you just really have a thing for the color green, you’ll love attending this fast-growing school. This public research university, located in Montclair, New Jersey, is the second largest school in the state, enrolling 18,498 students as of October 2012. Along with a good number of students, MSU offers over 250 different majors, minors, and concentrations. You’ll have no problem finding a research partner (or organizing a sweet kickball team) at this diverse university. MSU’s motto is “Seize the day.” Might we suggest you start by seizing an apartment lease?
If you don’t like the idea of RAs cutting into your daily Xbox time with mind-numbing icebreaking activities, you’ll want to start looking for off-campus housing from the middle through the end of the spring semester. Don’t fret, who has graduated from the once-entertaining “two truths and a lie”: 74% of MSU undergrads live off campus. Just check out our college life guide for advice on dealing with roommates who keep hogging the controller before you check out our listings.
What about the weekends? While many people walk or drive cars, you can always hitch a ride on a New Jersey Transit bus or train. Visit Tierney’s Tavern and sing the school song with fellow Red Hawks. Stop by the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center and find out what "It ain't over till it's over” really means. If you don’t want the fun to be over (or you’re just dying to see the likes of Pat Benatar), take in a show at Wellmont Theatre.
