New York Medical College is a private health sciences grad school located in Valhalla, NY, a suburb of New York City. It was founded by a group of civic leaders led by William Cullen Bryant—one of those famous poets you read about in your high school English class. NYMC is made up of three schools: School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Health Sciences and Practices, and School of Medicine, which is the largest. Popular programs and residencies offered by NYMC include anesthesiology, radiology, internal medicine, and surgery. As the leading med school between NYC and Albany, you’ll have your great education and all the resources of the big cities.
While students with residencies live in their respective hospitals, everyone else has to find their own place to live. If you’re looking at attending NYMC, chances are you’ve probably already rented out your own apartment before as an undergraduate or in the years between. Near the city of Valhalla, you’ll find townhomes up for rent with one or two bedrooms. It may also be a good idea to dig through the rental listings of New York City, because there are more options in the city than there are around campus. If you do this, make sure you have a reliable way of commuting to school every day. Fortunately, Valhalla has a stop on the Harlem Line of New York’s MTA Metro North Railroad; this commuter line is known for convenience and reliability.
The main hospital that New York Medical College students use is the Westchester Medical Center, which is right in Valhalla. We’re all aware that med school can be a daunting experience, when all your time and effort is dedicated to your studies; if you do have some free time to peruse your surroundings, make sure to stop by So Dam Hot, a highly- rated burger joint. If you really aren’t inclined to move from your seat, there’s always Dom’s Pizza and Pasta House, which delivers right to your doorstep. Though I guess you’d have to leave your seat to open the door.
