About Bronx, NY

New York’s most northern borough is famous for baseball, elevated trains and densely populated neighborhoods. It is also the greenest of the five boroughs, with NYC’s largest park (Pelham Bay Park), the Bronx Zoo, and the New York Botanical Garden. The most authentic Italian cuisine is found on Arthur Avenue, the Bronx's Little Italy, and the best outdoor activities are found in Van Cortlandt Park, which offers boating, horseback riding, and the oldest public golf course in the US.
  • Fordham University

    Welcome To Fordham University

With one scenic campus nestled at the foot of The New York Botanical Gardens, near the Bronx Zoo, and another located right in the heart of Midtown Manhattan at Lincoln Center, you can understand why students here say, "New York is my campus. Fordham is my school." Fordham University is a highly respected and long-running institution with a proud history. Its nickname is "Old Maroon", from the school’s official sports team colors. The school excels in a variety of fields from Business, Law, and Engineering to the Performing Arts—especially dance. Historically the school has been known as a place with religious affiliations both Catholic and Jesuit. Today, it's a big school where you can study just about anything under notable faculty, enjoying the traditional experience of a beautiful, scenic campus, with the entire city of New York right outside your door!

Housing In & Around The Campus Area

Okay...so maybe you want a little more space to yourself, a little more experience of the so-called 'real' world beyond the school/library/cafeteria/library/dorm-room routine. You want an apartment! As you may already have found, apartment rentals in the NYC area are in serious demand, given the amount of college students in and around Manhattan. If you can’t find the perfect spot right in the city, you may have luck finding places in Yonkers, just north of the Rose Hill Campus, or across the Hudson River in New Jersey. It might be a little bit of a commute, but as millions of people demonstrate here daily, New York is worth the commute. Properties in the area range from enormous luxury condos on the waterfront to more modest apartment buildings. Use our apartment guide for apartment search tips. And don't get discouraged! Campus Life And The Surroundings

Whether you're around Lincoln Center or Rose Hill in the Bronx, you'll find that transportation for students is excellent. Of course there is all the NYC public transit, but then also you have Fordham's very own 'Ram Van' shuttle bus system, which only costs $3. It's also great to bike around campus, and you can bring your bicycle onto the MetroNorth trains that go right to Grand Central Station in Midtown, for a small fee. As far as things to do, well...there's all of New York City only a few minutes away! What you should really check-out though, if you're feeling adventurous, just for a change of pace after hitting the bars/museums/music venues/what-have-you in Manhattan, seriously, is the New York Botanical Gardens. It's right next door to the campus, and no one ever goes there, and it might even be a good place to take someone on a date, come to think of it...
